State Water Holding Polish Waters
The State Water Holding Polish Waters is the main entity responsible for national water management. It exercises ownership rights over waters belonging to the State Treasury. It prepares materials to ensure the implementation of EU directives, including the Water Framework Directive. It calculates and collects fees for water services, issues water law permits, and monitors water management practices.
Polish Waters also engage in planning, preparation, and implementation of investments in water management as well as the maintenance and operation of hydrotechnical facilities. They conduct activities related to ensuring water availability for agricultural needs. Polish Waters work closely with water users in areas such as inland navigation, energy production, industry, tourism, and recreation.
Polish Waters employ over 6,500 staff members across nearly 400 locations nationwide. They manage more than 185,000 km of watercourses and comprehensively oversee and operate nearly 32,800 hydrotechnical facilities.
